The club began in 1880 as Ardwick AFC but in 1894 was changed to Manchester City.
From 1894-1966 Manchester City bounced between Division 1 and 2, struggling to maintain their success for longer than a season’s time. Eventually in 1968 Manchester City won the title, became Premier League champions and from then on were seeing steady success.
In the year 1996, Manchester City was not winning as much as they used to. They had a streak of bad luck and misfortune to get demoted 2 leagues and were in the third division.
During 2002 they became a mid-table team under Kevin Keegan. They were not the most successful but caught the eye of Sheikh Mansour who bought the club in 2008 with the vision to become the biggest club in the world. They began signing the best soccer players because of their new funding. Though this was not enough, they hoped their major funding would bring club success but it they were nowhere close to being the best club in the world. In 2011-12 Manchester City became Premier League champions for the first time in 44 years thanks to Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero!
