Premier League History

European leagues have been around for a while but the Premier League was founded in 1992. There has been 23 seasons with the inaugural season starting in August.

The first division clubs resigned from the Football League in may 1992 which then created Barclays Premier League as a result. The inaugural members of the Premier League were:
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Everton, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest, Oldham Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Utd, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wimbledon.

Since the beginning in 1992, 46 clubs have played in this league. And just this year a team was promoted to the league making it the 47th team.

At the end of each season, 3 teams are relegated (goes to a lower division) and three clubs are promoted. Apart from the opening campaign in 1992/93, every season of the Barclays Premier League has had a title sponsor.

Sir Alex Ferguson is the most successful manager in the competition and has helped Manchester United to all their Premier League successes. He also holds the record for being the longest serving manager in the league, spending 21 years in the league until his retiring in 2012/2013 season.

The premier league has had some great players and coaches/managers in their league who have gotten into the hall of fame. This league is an exciting league and proves to only get better and more competitive throughout the years. The strength of the teams in this league are great and can compete with other clubs all around the world.
